The Flyer crew stopped at the home of Colonel Buffalo Bill Cody, famed for his wild west shows. Conditions improved, and the Flyer had the best run since NYC of 280 miles in one day. Passing trains saluted the Flyer with long whistles. Schools dismissed class so the children could wave flags and see what was for many, their very first automobile.

Our next stop would take us past the Great Salt Lake, with pure white beaches not of sand but salt which extended for miles. We heard stories of early settlers while crossing this area having to abandon their horses, and livestock due to thirst even though they were surrounded by water…
Now you can’t pass Salt Lake with vintage cars, and not include a pilgrimage to the fabled Bonneville Salt Flats. The flats extend to the horizon, and the mountains in the distance give some idea of the expanse. Many land speed records have been set here, but unfortunately never with a Model A…
